0.5.8 I uploaded 0.5.8 to the server and it's available for download. No torrent yet but I'm sure Easter will fix that up. And when I can VNC to my box I'll start seeding it.

Right, here's the what's new:

-the installer has been tweaked, a manual partitioning will NOT wipe the drive's existing partition table, thus allowing you to dual-boot. I've tested this in a Windows XP VM and was able to dualboot XP and FLY from the same drive.

The partition table was as follows:
/dev/hda1 -- Windows FAT32 bootable
/dev/hda2 -- /boot ext2
/dev/hda3 -- Linux swap
/dev/hda4 -- / (root) ext3

The installer creates a default /boot/grub/menu.lst which has entries the same as the LiveCD. Which means after the installer is finished, you have to re-mount the /boot partition and edit menu.lst to add the entry for Windows. Mine looked like this:

-gParted has been compiled with support for JFS, HFS, XFS, FAT, and NTFS. Useful for re-sizing drives.

-Truecrypt was temporarily removed. It has been masked in the Portage tree due to legal issues (which I haven't read up on yet). I will look into this and try to get it back in the next version of FLY.

-I've modified Conky so that it better displays the status of services, and added the SSH and HiveMind daemons.

-Although there is a menu entry for the HiveMind daemon, and a file exists in /etc/init.d/ the daemon isn't functional yet (or even written). That's going to be worked on soon and will mark the release of the next major version of FLY hopefully.

-What's next?

Nebriv was working on a theme switcher script. Let's work on it and try to incorporate it into the Fluxbox menu, so that themes can be changed easily that way instead of through a CLI prompt. Themes consist of a Fluxbox style, background artwork, and colour scheme for Conky. Perhaps even later (when we get someone with GTK+ knowledge) different GTK+ colours.

HiveMind: its time to start putting in some serious work into this. I think the first thing to do would be tackle the GeoIP concept, along with sending XML files (or similar) to connected flies so they may generate a background image showing a world map outlining countries with shades to indicate the presence of various flies. Perhaps statistics as well such as number of connected flies. Max number of connections, longest current uptime, and various other stats that are anonymous.

-Compile install: now that the quick install method is functional, I'll start focusing on the compile install method. Since Gentoo installs most packages from source, this would be the better way. A compile install also gives the user the ability to modify the kernel to their hardware, use Portage to install and update applications, and could lead to a FLY update service wish would keep their installs up to date with the FLY project.
